Carotid Ultrasound

Technique:

Ultrasound imaging of the carotid arteries, located on the right and left side of your neck.

Purpose:

To detect the presence of plaque that may lead to stroke. If severe blockage is present, then either carotid stenting or surgery may be performed to change the natural history of this disease. That is, the risk of stroke may be dramatically reduced.

Preparation:

Please wear loose fitting, open-necked shirt or blouse and refrain from wearing neck jewelry.
